Mayu Nakaya (she/her)

-As a contemporary dance artist,

Mayu’s work often begins with philosophical questions rooted in the subconscious. She is drawn to the elusive aspects of human thought and emotion—those that cannot be neatly verbalized but live within the body as sensation, tension, or stillness. Mayu views dance as a means of examining these inner landscapes, not to define them, but to inhabit and reveal them through movement.

Parallel to this conceptual inquiry, Mayu is fascinated by the physical aspects of choreography: the uniqueness of individual movement, the fragility and precision of subtle gestures, and the spatial relationships between bodies. She pay particular attention to how energy flows through a space, how proximity, absence, or silence between dancers can carry as much meaning as the movement itself.

Mayu's process is often intuitive, emerging from improvisation and inner listening. She aim to create works that resonate not only visually, but viscerally—inviting audiences into a quiet, reflective space where the body becomes a vessel for both the personal and the universal.
